Udinese continued their poor away form in Serie A with a 1-0 loss at Genoa last weekend, which was their third consecutive away defeat. With only two victories in 13 away games there is no surprise that Udinese is nowhere near the top 5 positions.
Daniele Padelli is not doing a great job replacing injured Brkic, the goalkeeper flapped at a corner and allowed Genoa midfielder Kucka to score into the empty net what turned out to be the decisive goal.
Udinese had their chances in the second half, with Benatia and Pasqual both having excellent chances, though they were unable to convert. The Friulani will hope to be more inspired at home, where Udinese is running great having won four consecutive league games.
Coach Francesco Guidolin won’t be able to count on injured midfielder Pinzi and goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic, while defender Gabriele Angella serves a one-match suspension.
Napoli
Napoli’s European campaign came to a sudden end in the round of 32 of the Europa League where a determined Viktoria Plzen side convincingly defeated the Sicilians with a shocking 5-0 on aggregate.
Coach Walter Mazzari declared that his side could now channel all their energy into winning the Serie A title which is Napoli’s main objective this season. Mazzari rested some of his regulars in the second leg against Plzen, giving some playing time to newcomers Calaio and Rolando.
Napoli seems like the only team capable to keep up with Juventus, but the Bianconeri picked up another win yesterday to extend their lead to seven points, so any other result than a win in Udine will diminish Napoli’s chances in the battle for the title.
The Partenopei will have the chance to move within one point if they’ll manage to pick up three points against Udinese and then see off Juventus at the San Paolo on Friday.
The Betting Verdict
Udinese holds a solid 7-4-1 home record this season, so Napoli will have to come up with something special if they’ll want to win their first game in Udine since 2007.
The Sicilians were lucky to avoid defeat on their previous Serie A travel with Campagnaro scoring a superb 87th minute goal to deny Lazio the victory.
They’ll have to perform better today to see off a dominant Udinese side, Guidolin’s side have not lost a home game since the 1-4 defeat to Juventus back in September.
We should see an open game here, both sides have a lot of quality up front, Udinese have actually scored in every one of their last nine home matches, whilst Napoli haven’t failed to hit the target on the road since a 0-1 defeat in Atalanta back in October.
